The Arthur Murray Studio teaching method encompasses various degrees of dancing, and mirrors that of a scholastic merit system. Instruction progresses through Student Introductory & Variety Programs and Associate or Full Programs in Bronze, Silver, Gold, Gold Bar and Gold Star Standards.This system is called the Medalist System and is used throughout all Arthur Murray locations. Studio courses are designed for those who desire instruction in either Social or Competition dancing, and instructors use comparative techniques in teaching which enables students to learn the skills needed for dancing in the most efficient way possible. During your one-on-one lesson, you will receive personalized instruction that will help you achieve your goals in dancing. Your instructor will spend time on developing new technique, styling, and general dance improvement. An up-to-date record of everything you have learned will also be kept as part of your instruction.
Group Classes are an important addition to your private instruction. They give you the opportunity to meet and dance with a variety of partners and to develop good dance habits. In Group Classes, emphasis is placed on technique, style, and pattern variation, and material may be taught that hasn't been covered through private instruction. Additionally, material that hasn't been introduced will be reviewed and practiced on your private lessons for improvement.
We hold dance parties (practice sessions) for all of our students that scheduled on a weekly basis. You will have fun dancing with the instructors and students in a relaxed and comfortable environment. This gives you the opportunity to practice and try out all the new dance skills you've learned in your Private and Group Lessons.
An Arthur Murray Medal Ball is a gala dance event honoring students who've graduated from one level in their dance program to the next. The Medal Ball also affords students the opportunity to enjoy their dancing in a fun and elegant setting.
A Showcase is a one-day event where students present dance routines developed through personalized choreography. These routines make an exciting addition to your Medalist Program because they allow you to develop showmanship and musical expression along with your social dance skills.
A Dance Sport Competition is an exciting two or three day event that brings together students from many Arthur Murray studios to compete in dances of their choosing. This requires specialized training to polish and perfect choreography, technique, and style. The weekend is full of activities such as dance competitions, cocktail parties, dinner dances, and exciting professional shows.
This method of instruction often reduces the time it takes to learn. "One picture is worth a thousand words". Video study is quite popular with many students and is included free of charge with any of our programs.
